Odisha govt stated that the objective behind seeking to conduct infra gap assessment is to enhance the learning experience and campus environment.

Odisha Govt: The higher education department of the state will conduct a comprehensive review of the existing infrastructure in government degree colleges and teacher education institutes (TEIs). This evaluation aims to ensure and elevate the quality of education and campus amenities.

The main goal of this assessment is to deeply comprehend the present condition of physical facilities in these institutions, identify areas for improvement, and recognize any obstacles they might be facing. Moreover, this assessment will enable the Odisha govt. to create strategic plans for improving the campus environment and enhancing the overall learning journey for students across the state.

“In view of the above, you and the governing body/management committee of the institute are kindly urged to evaluate the existing infrastructure of the college and identify any essential needs. The requested information should be submitted in Google Sheet format, which will be shared with your college email address soon. This will facilitate the required actions on our part,” the communication mentioned.

The letter further instructs the principals of both degree colleges and Teacher Education Institutes to provide all the necessary details in the Google Sheet by August 14th.

As per the department’s guidelines, the institutions’ authorities will fill out a form with various details. At the top of the form, they’ll provide the college’s name, contact information, and total land area. They’ll also include information about the total number of students, the types of courses offered (regular and self-financed), and the number of students enrolled in each course.

In the section related to infrastructure, they’ll outline the available buildings and specify the number of rooms. They’ll describe the condition of laboratories, drinking water and toilet facilities, as well as the availability of accessibility features like lifts or ramps. The form will also include information about drainage systems, libraries, reading rooms, and multipurpose halls.

The authorities of Odisha Govt. will also indicate if there’s an auditorium or seminar hall, and whether the college has hostels for girls and boys, along with the capacity of beds. Other facilities mentioned in the form will include the presence of a boundary wall, playground, sports complex, internet connectivity, parking areas, staff quarters, and other relevant amenities

There are 49 government degree colleges and 16 Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) in the state. According to a government college principal, many of these colleges lack well-equipped laboratories, proper sports complexes, and other necessary facilities.

Once the detailed information is collected through the assessment, the Odisha govt. will strategize the improvement of these institutions. This enhancement will contribute to better rankings in the evaluation conducted by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), as mentioned by an official from the department.
